Shepherd’s Bush Overground will finally open!

31 08 2008

Hi all

It seems a very long time now with the delay of the opening of Shepherd’s Bush Overground. This was because TfL were unhappy with the wall Northbound which made the platform narrow. But they were recently pushed back.

However, today I was at Willesden Junction station and noticed on one of the station closures map that Shepherd’s Bush Overground station finally has an opening date! It will open on 28th September 2008. That will mean that it will open before Shepherd’s Bush Central line station which opens in mid October. Check the photo below for confirmation! I will probably pay a visit around that time, it should be good!

Closures to London Overground coming!

29 08 2008

Hi all

You will probably be aware of the London Overground closures coming from Monday 1st September 2008. I wrote an earlier blog sometime ago about the closures in detail.  Click here for full details.

In summary, the following closures will take place:

  • Gospel Oak – Willesden Junction: 1st September to 17th November 2008.
  • Gospel Oak – Barking line: 1st September to 29th September 2008.
  • Gospel Oak – Camden Road: 22nd September to 29th September 2008.
Replacement bus services are planned during the closure. Although the Watford Junction – Euston line is unaffected, the route will be altered so that Watford Junction trains will go towards Stratford via Primrose Hill on Mondays – Saturdays. The normal route will run only on Sundays.  The West London line runs as normal (Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction) and there is service between Willesden Junction and Richmond.
So what is going on?  Well as well as track replacement work, there will be replacing bridges (mainly on the Gospel Oak to Barking line) and the widening of a tunnel (that being the Hampstead Heath Tunnel).
What do you think of these closures? What alternatives are you going to take? Let me know!

More ‘new iPod’ info!

27 08 2008

Hi all

Continuing on from the rumoured Apple Inc. mill, there is more info about the so called new Apple product event!  There are claims that there will be an announcement on 9th September. Now how accurate that is, is one thing!

The main spotlight is on the iPods and rumours of a total refresh.  The iPod Nano will undergo another change in design after going through a major redesign last year.  It will be taller, thinner and the screen appears to look slightly bigger (and you probably have to turn your Nano landscape to view videos). The iPod Touch has had further details and there are rumours that GPS will be included in the second edition of the player.

In addition, other sources claim that there are in fact a number of products due for a refresh…but Apple are saying nothing about these claims. With just under two weeks to go until the rumoured 9th September event, only time will tell if such claims come to be…I will be back with this topic again very soon as I hear more news!!!

Has anyone heard anything else? What do you think? Let me know!

Out to Coventry

25 08 2008

Hi all

A bit of a different subject now.  Just went out in the countryside for another ride up north.  On the journey up the M1 from Junction 4, I made my way up to the Newport Pagnell services to stop off for lunch.  I wasn’t intending to go further than Northampton…but then an idea came along, what was it like to drive down the M45 towards Coventry?  Well at junction 17, I did just that!  These two photos below just shows you how quiet the M45 really is…

Now how’s that for a lovely drive down? No traffic in the way, just a nice open stretch of road. This used to be the old route towards Birmingham before they built the M6 and because of this, the M45 is simply just a quiet motorway towards Coventry (although you can still get onto the A45 from there to get to Birmingham anyway).

I thought I would share with you this interesting part of my journey!

Olympics draw to a close

24 08 2008

Hi all

What a brilliant Olympics! Beijing hosted a brilliant Olympics and their closing ceremony was just as good as the opening one.  The last medal ceremony took place as well on the very last day.  But the show was absolutely brilliant!  The torch was extinguished, and the Olympic flag was officially handed over to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson!  There was a short 8 minute section featuring the famous London bus and featured Leona Lewis with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and David Beckham who kicked a ball into the athletes!

Congratulations goes to Team GB for bringing home 47 medals in which 19 of them were Gold! Now London is officially handed over the Olympics, it is time to get prepared in the next four years to 2012 where the Olympics will happen once again.  Let’s hope the passion and enthusiasm will continue for Team GB in 2012 and bring even more Gold medals home on home soil!

What did you think of this year’s Olympics? Send your comments in!

More auditions on The X Factor

23 08 2008

Hi all

Has anyone seen the second episode of auditions on The X Factor?  So funny ones and certainly some very good ones too.  I haven’t been paying too much attention I admit, but there was an excellent girl group and a few not so good groups.  At the moment, it is very hard to see one act featured here being as good as Shayne Ward and Leona Lewis…and Leon Jackson, last year’s winner!  But we shall see!  It’s still early days, and only when we get to the Boot Camp and Judges’ Homes stages will we know how well this year’s contest will be!

Have you been watching The X Factor? What do you think of the auditions? Let me know!
